An untouched 1950′s house at the end of a cul-de-sac. The original house ignored both its setting and orientation, with the entrance, existing staircase and service areas cutting the main living spaces off from the rear garden.
The proposal is for a bold but understated 2 storey brick rear extension with generous amounts of glazing. Internally the house is organised around a central “atrium” that extends up to a rooflight bringing light into the heart of the building.
A range of low energy measures are included within this proposal, based on the principle of creating a highly insulated and airtight building. The extension features 200mm wide cavities to the external brick walls to achieve German Passiv Haus insulation levels.
Status: Project completed.
