The proposal was for the complete renovation of this 5 bedroom house, along with a two storey extension to the front of the house. The additional space allowed for the “re-ordering” of the internal layout of the house, the key move being the rotation of the staircase and creating a new central axis through the house, off which all the key spaces are arranged on 3 levels. The staircase now extends up into the roof of the house and brings light down into the heart of the property.
The remodelling of the exterior of the house allowed us to create a coherent design to the rear and south elevations, as well as significantly improve insulation levels by overcladding. The front (west) elevation highlights the junction between the new and existing house with the proposed elegant glass link. The timber cladding and the overall choice of materials to the rear reinforces the links to the gardens, whilst being sympathetic to the character of the Conservation area.
