Stoney Court

“Opening up to the garden” and “bringing in light” was the brief for this ground floor rear extension.

The house is set at the end of a small cul-de-sac, tucked away in the corner of this 1980s development. The challenge was to make the new kitchen and dining space address the “L-shaped” garden.

Our proposal “wraps” around the rear corner and “opens” the house onto the garden in both directions, bringing light in and views out through the series of “framed” openings set between a pair of “bookend” brick walls, with either low or high level strip windows “cut” into them. Further the raised ceiling level within the extension increases the overall sense of space of light.

The extension blends with the existing house to create an elegant and contemporary family home.
